Memory Card Data Recovery for SD, microSD and CF — Sydney and Australia-wide
Wedding photos on a corrupted SD card. Drone footage on a microSD that suddenly reads empty. A CF card your camera now insists needs formatting. Memory cards carry some of the most irreplaceable files people own, and they fail without warning.
NexusByte recovers photos, video and files from SD, microSD, CF and other flash memory cards for photographers, videographers, drone pilots and everyday users in Sydney — with a simple mail-in option covering all of Australia.
Whether the card was accidentally formatted, corrupted mid-shoot, snapped in half or simply stopped being recognised, we assess it free of charge and quote before any recovery starts. And if we can't get your files back, you pay nothing at all.

Our memory card recovery service includes:
Flash memory needs a gentler touch than you'd think
Memory cards have no moving parts, but they're far from indestructible. Controller failures, corrupted file tables and physical damage each call for different recovery techniques — and the wrong first move can overwrite the very photos you're trying to save.
We begin by working out why the card is misbehaving: a logical fault like accidental formatting, a corrupted file system from a mid-write power loss, a failed controller chip, or damage to the card itself. Wherever the hardware allows, we take a complete read-only image of the card and recover from that copy, so nothing we do can make the situation worse. For cards no computer can see at all, specialised flash recovery tools let us reach the memory chips more directly.
Photos and footage only exist once. We treat every card like it's carrying the only copy — because it usually is.
Built for every card. Engineered for every shoot.
From a phone's microSD to a professional camera's CFexpress, flash cards fail in similar ways across wildly different devices. We recover from all of them.
If it saves to a card, we can assess the card.
Your Data, Protected. Guaranteed.
We safeguard and recover your data with clear pricing and a no-risk promise on recovery work.
Your data stays backed up, secure, and recoverable when you need it most.
Request a Free QuoteWhat you get back
Recovered photos and footage are only worth something if they open, play and sort correctly — so that's the standard we recover to.
No recovery, no fee — if your files don't come back, there's nothing to pay.
How memory card recovery works
Cards are small, but the process is thorough. From the moment your card reaches us, here's what happens to it.
Memory card recovery services
Photo recovery from SD and microSD
The classic heartbreak: a card full of photos that's been formatted, corrupted or wiped by a camera error. Formatting rarely destroys the underlying images straight away — they often just need to be found.
Includes:
- Accidentally formatted cards
- Deleted photo recovery
- Card error and corruption faults
- RAW and JPEG recovery
- Cards asking to be reformatted
Video and drone footage recovery
Video files are large, fragmented and unforgiving of interruptions. Recovering footage that plays properly takes more than generic undelete software.
Includes:
- Drone and action-cam footage
- Dashcam incident footage
- Interrupted-recording corruption
- Fragmented video reassembly
- 4K and high-bitrate files
Damaged and dead card recovery
Snapped cards, bent cards, cards that no reader will acknowledge. Physical and controller-level failures need hardware techniques, and that's exactly what we assess for.
Includes:
- Snapped and bent cards
- Cards not detected by any reader
- Water and heat damage
- Failed controller chips
- Monolithic microSD cards

Why photographers across Australia send us their cards
- Free assessment and a quote before any recovery work
- No recovery, no fee on every card
- Read-only handling — your card is never written to
- Specialised tools for flash faults and fragmented video
- Sydney drop-off, Australia-wide mail-in
- Confidential handling of personal photos and footage
Your memories get one recovery attempt done properly — make it count.
What Is Memory Card Data Recovery?
Memory card recovery is the retrieval of photos, video and files from SD, microSD, CompactFlash and XQD cards that have been formatted, corrupted, physically damaged, or that a camera or phone can no longer read. Most of the cards that reach us come from cameras, drones, dash cams, action cameras and phones — and most carry something that cannot simply be shot again.
Unlike a laptop drive, a memory card holds no operating system and no second copy. Whatever is on it is usually the only version, which is why what you do in the first few minutes matters more here than on almost any other media.
Why Do Memory Cards Fail So Suddenly?
Cards fail differently from drives. There are no moving parts, so failure is electrical, structural or logical: a controller that stops responding, a cracked solder joint under the plastic, or a file system corrupted mid-write when a camera lost power or a card was pulled out too early.
Counterfeit and over-capacity cards are a category of their own. A card sold as 512GB that is really 32GB will appear to record hours of footage and then reveal, on playback, that most of it overwrote itself. That damage is usually visible only once the files are examined, and it is one of the few situations where a card can look healthy while the footage is already gone.
Wear matters too. Cards used continuously — dash cams and security cameras writing loops all day — reach the end of their write endurance far sooner than a card that lives in a camera bag, and they tend to fail without warning.
What Should You Do the Moment a Card Stops Working?
The instinct is to keep trying the card in different devices. That is the single most common way recoverable photos become unrecoverable.
- Stop shooting immediately. Every new photo can overwrite the space holding the old ones.
- Never accept the camera or phone prompt to format or repair the card, however insistent it is.
- Do not let the camera write a new file system to it — recovering from an in-camera format is far harder than from the original fault.
- If the card is bent, cracked or has been in water, leave it alone entirely. Reading a damaged card in a normal reader can finish it off.
- Switch to a spare card and set the damaged one aside somewhere dry.
Can Formatted or Deleted Photos Still Be Recovered?
Usually, yes — provided nothing has been written since. A quick format rewrites the index rather than erasing the images, so the photo data generally survives intact and can be rebuilt by signature, which is why files often come back without their original names or folders. A full format is a different matter and leaves far less behind.
RAW files from professional cameras often recover particularly well, because their large, distinctive structure is easy to identify on a card with no surviving index. Video is the harder case: a single clip is written across a wide area, so a partially overwritten recording may return as a shorter or fragmented file rather than the whole take.
What Happens to a Physically Damaged Card?
When the card body is broken but the memory chip inside is intact, the data can often still be reached. That work is done at chip level rather than through a card reader, and it is slower and more involved than a logical recovery — but a snapped SD card is not automatically a lost one.
Every card is assessed first, and you get a clear answer on what is realistically recoverable along with a fixed quote before any work begins. If nothing comes back, our no recovery, no fee policy means the attempt costs you nothing.
