MacBook Data Recovery for Sydney and Australia-Wide Clients
MacBooks travel everywhere with us, which is exactly why they meet coffee cups, backpacks and rain more often than any desktop ever will. NexusByte recovers data from MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops for people across Sydney and throughout Australia who suddenly find their working life trapped inside a dead machine.
Since 2016, most MacBooks have shipped with storage soldered directly to the logic board, and newer T2 and Apple Silicon models encrypt that storage with keys buried in the security hardware. In practice this means recovery usually depends on reviving enough of the board for the machine to give up its data — a genuinely specialised job, and one we will only quote after telling you honestly whether your model and failure make it feasible.
The assessment is free, the quote is fixed, and if your files cannot be recovered you will not be charged. That is how our No Fix, No Fee policy works.
Our MacBook data recovery includes:
Liquid spill damage recoveryDead logic board data rescueSoldered SSD recovery workRecovery when no backup existsMacBook Air and Pro, all yearsFree honest assessment
A MacBook that will not power on is really a board problem wearing a data-loss costume, so our work starts at the component level.
Liquid incidents get immediate attention to halt corrosion, because every day a spill sits on a logic board reduces what can be saved. We then trace the failure — a shorted power rail, a damaged charging circuit, a failed component near the storage — and repair just enough of the board to bring the machine up for extraction. On older models with removable SSDs we can often read the storage directly with the right adaptors. On soldered and encrypted machines we are upfront that the data lives or dies with the board's security hardware: if the components holding the encryption keys are destroyed, no lab on earth can decrypt that storage, and we will never pretend otherwise.
Rapid corrosion intervention for spills
Component-level board diagnosis
Targeted repairs aimed at data access
Direct reads of removable-era SSDs
Honest limits on encrypted soldered storage
Repairing a board just enough to free the data is delicate work, and it is exactly the kind of work we have built our bench around.
Built for MacBooks. Engineered for Life's Accidents.
Laptops fail in the field, not on a desk. These are the situations that land MacBooks on our bench most often.
Coffee and tea spills
Wine and soft drink damage
Dead and shorted logic boards
No power after a surge
Kernel panics on boot
Soldered SSD failures
Crushed and bent chassis
Battery swelling casualties
However your MacBook met its end, the question we care about is whether the storage and its keys survived.
Your Data, Protected. Guaranteed.
We safeguard and recover your data with clear pricing and a no-risk promise on recovery work.

Fast Turnaround
Your data stays backed up, secure, and recoverable when you need it most.
For most clients a MacBook is a workplace in a shell — so we go after the work first, then everything else.
Client work and project files
Desktop and Documents folders
Photo libraries and creative assets
Email archives and browser data
Everything recovered is presented to you for confirmation before billing, transferred securely, and never left behind on our systems.
Our MacBook Recovery Process
Every MacBook we receive, from Bondi to Broome, follows the same disciplined route from intake to data handover.
1. Report the Incident
Let us know the model, what happened and whether FileVault or a firmware password is involved. For spills, we will tell you immediately how to shut down and ship the machine to limit corrosion.
2. Free Board-Level Assessment
We open the machine, inspect the logic board under magnification and map the damage. You get a truthful verdict on feasibility at no charge.
3. Fixed-Price Quote
If recovery is viable, we quote a fixed amount and explain the planned repair path. You decide whether to proceed — there is never pressure.
4. Repair for Extraction
We repair the faults standing between the storage and a successful boot, then extract your data in full using your credentials to unlock encrypted volumes.
5. Confirm and Collect
You verify the recovered files, receive them on secure media, and take your MacBook back. If we could not save the data, the recovery costs you nothing.

Liquid Spill Recovery
Fast intervention for MacBooks that have taken on coffee, water, wine or worse, where corrosion is racing the clock.
MacBook data recovery is the retrieval of files from a MacBook Air or Pro that will not boot, shows a folder with a question mark, has been damaged by liquid, or has lost a volume after a failed macOS update. It spans the whole range, from older models with a removable drive through to current Apple Silicon machines where the storage is part of the logic board.
Which of those you own changes everything about the job, and it is the first thing worth establishing. The same fault on a 2015 MacBook Pro and a 2023 MacBook Air are two completely different pieces of work with different odds.
Does Your MacBook Have a Removable Drive?
Models up to around 2015 use standard SATA or proprietary blade SSDs that can be removed and imaged in the usual way. Recovery on these is routine: pull the drive, take a sector-level copy, work from that copy and never touch the original again.
From roughly 2016 onward the storage is soldered to the logic board, and from the T2 generation onward it is also encrypted against that specific board. On those machines the flash cannot be read anywhere else — recovery means bringing the original board back to life long enough to unlock the volume, which is board-level electronics work rather than conventional data recovery.
Apple Silicon machines take this further still. The storage is bound to the Secure Enclave inside the M-series chip, so a board that cannot be revived is generally the end of the road. That is an unwelcome answer, and we would rather give it early than after a bill.
Liquid Damage: What Actually Matters
Liquid is the most common MacBook emergency we see, and the outcome is decided in the first hour rather than in the workshop. Sugary drinks and salt water are far more destructive than plain water, because what harms the board is not the liquid itself but the corrosion it leaves while power is still flowing.
Hold the power button to force it off immediately. Do not shut down politely.
Unplug the charger and do not reconnect it, however tempting a status check is.
Turn it upside down in a tent shape so liquid drains away from the board rather than into it.
Do not use rice, a hairdryer or an airing cupboard. None of them stop corrosion, and heat adds its own damage.
Get it looked at within days, not weeks. Corrosion spreads while the machine sits in a drawer.
A Folder With a Question Mark, or a Mac That Will Not Boot
A flashing question mark means the Mac cannot find a startup disk. That can be a failed drive, but it is just as often a corrupted APFS container or a broken boot record with the data completely intact underneath — which is why the recovery attempt should come before any reinstall.
The instinct to run Disk Utility First Aid repeatedly, or to reinstall macOS to “fix” it, is the single most common way recoverable data is lost on a Mac. Both write to the disk. If the files matter, image first and repair afterwards.
What You Will Need Before Recovery Starts
On any T2 or Apple Silicon MacBook, we need the Apple Account password or, where FileVault was enabled, the recovery key. Without one of them the volume stays encrypted no matter what condition the hardware is in — a working machine and a sealed one look identical from the outside.
Assessment is free, and it starts by establishing which generation your machine is and whether encryption is in play. You get a fixed quote and a realistic answer before any work begins, and nothing to pay if nothing comes back. Desktop machines follow a different path again — see iMac data recovery.

They were both very communicative, knowledgeable and super flexible with pick-ups times. Just outstanding customer service all round. Thanks guys!
The main cost drivers are the extent of board damage and the storage generation involved. A machine needing one component replaced is a smaller job than a board with widespread liquid damage across multiple circuits. Every quote is fixed after a free assessment, and No Fix, No Fee means a failed attempt is on us, not you.
I spilled coffee on my MacBook — what should I do right now?
Disconnect the charger, shut it down immediately and do not power it back on to check whether it still works, because that is how shorts destroy boards. Do not tip it upside down aggressively or blast it with a hairdryer either. Get it to us quickly — corrosion starts within hours, and early treatment dramatically improves the outlook.
My MacBook has a soldered SSD — can the data still be recovered?
Often, yes, but the route is different: instead of removing the storage, we repair the logic board until the machine can boot or reach a transfer mode, then extract everything. The honest caveat is that on T2 and Apple Silicon models the encryption keys live in the board's security hardware, so if those specific components are destroyed the data is permanently out of reach.
Does FileVault stop you from recovering my files?
Not if you can supply your login password or recovery key — with those, we unlock the volume as part of the normal extraction. Without any valid credentials, FileVault does precisely what Apple designed it to do and keeps the contents sealed. We will establish which situation applies to you before any money changes hands.
How long does a MacBook recovery usually take?
Board repairs are inherently variable: a straightforward fault might be resolved within the week, while severe liquid damage can require multiple rounds of cleaning, repair and testing. Shipping adds time for clients outside Sydney. We would rather give you an accurate estimate at quote time than an impressive-sounding one we cannot keep.
Is it worth trying a DIY fix from online videos first?
With a machine that holds your only copy of important data, we recommend against it. Reflowing, prying open a liquid-damaged chassis or repeatedly force-booting can convert a recoverable board into an unrecoverable one, and encrypted models leave zero margin for error around the security components. A free professional assessment risks nothing; a DIY attempt risks everything.
