Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how NexusByte (ABN 48 450 169 339) (NexusByte, we, us, our) uses cookies and similar technologies on www.nexusbyte.com.au (the Site). It forms part of our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.

We keep cookies to a minimum. The Site sets cookies only to protect its forms, to keep you signed in to the client portal, and to understand how the Site is used. We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies, and we do not share cookie data with advertisers.

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. It lets the site recognise your browser on later requests, which is how a site keeps you signed in, remembers a setting or measures how many people visit. Cookies set by the Site are “first-party” cookies. Cookies set by another company through content embedded in the Site, such as a map or a payment form, are “third-party” cookies. A session cookie is deleted when you close your browser; a persistent cookie stays until it expires or you delete it.

2. The cookies we use

2.1 Strictly necessary

These cookies are needed for the Site to work and to keep it secure. They are set only when you use the feature concerned, and you cannot use that feature without them.

Portal sign-in (authjs.session-token, authjs.csrf-token, authjs.callback-url): set by the Site when you sign in to the client portal. The session cookie keeps you signed in for up to 14 days; the others protect the sign-in process and last for the session. Set only for portal users.
Staff sign-in (admin_login, nb_admin_tickets): set only when a member of our staff signs in to the administration area. They are never set for customers.
Google reCAPTCHA (_GRECAPTCHA): set by Google on pages that carry one of our forms, to tell genuine visitors from automated bots. It lasts 6 months and is governed by Google's privacy policy.

Your light or dark theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage under the name nb-theme. It never leaves your device and is not a cookie.

2.2 Analytics

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how visitors use the Site: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and roughly where they are. The information is aggregated and is not linked to your name.

_ga: distinguishes one browser from another. Lasts 2 years.
_ga_<id>: keeps the state of the current visit for our analytics property. Lasts 2 years.

You can stop Google Analytics from recording your visits by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking these cookies in your browser as described in section 4.

2.3 Advertising

We do not use advertising, marketing or retargeting cookies. If we ever introduce them, we will update this policy first.

3. Cookies set by embedded services

Some content on the Site is provided by other companies. When it loads, that company may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. We do not control these cookies and do not receive the data in them.

Google Maps. The map on our contact page and in the footer is served by Google, which may set cookies such as NID when it loads. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
Square. When you choose to pay a data recovery fee by card, the card form is provided by Square inside a secure frame on the payment step. Square sets cookies and similar identifiers within that frame to process the payment and detect fraud. Governed by Square's privacy policy.

The address search on our forms is provided by Mapbox and does not set cookies.

4. Controlling cookies

You can view, block and delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will stop the affected feature from working: you will not be able to sign in to the portal, and forms protected by reCAPTCHA may reject your submission. Blocking the analytics and embedded-service cookies has no effect on the Site's features. Instructions for the common browsers:

5. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the cookies we use change. The current version is always published on the Site with its “Last Updated” date.
